Tech Trends for 2015
December 29, 2014
As my last official blog entry of 2014, I am reminded of how interesting a year this has been in Information Security and Technology in general. I enjoy reading other people’s predictions for 2015, and decided for once that I would throw my hat into the proverbial ring, and don’t worry I don’t have that much money to lose.
As many of my friends know I despise buzzwords, but they do have one (and really only one use). Buzzwords are encumbered with overly broad definitions and burdened with unnecessary baggage, as each competitor attempts to make their product fit. So, here are some buzzwords that will be up and coming, or returning in 2015, and those that will be shelved and those that perhaps should just be bronzed and never used again.
For Technology
- Cloud -- / Cloud ++ : New Cloud Definitions, as if this buzzword was not broad enough.
- SDN : Same
- NFV ++
- Virtual Datacenter ++
- Hypervisor -- : Less discussion of an actual hypervisor
- OpenStack ++
- Wearables ++
- Health ++
- Consumer ++
- Corporate --
- Mobile Security
- MDM --
- MAM --
- Manufacturer Security ++
- IoT + Slow incremental increase
- Mobile Payments ++
- Socialized Encryption Solutions ++
- Network Security
- Firewalls : Not going anywhere because they are required by many compliance and regulatory bodies.
- Virtual Detection Systems ++
- SOC --
- Managed --
- Partnered ++
- Machine Learning ++
- Bigdata --
- SIEM --
- Security Socialization ++ : Security coordination between Service Providers
And by 2016 There Still :
- Won’t be a usable Calendar program.
- Will not be a good Security Alert Notification System
- Will not be a good enough Company Reputation Dashboard
